Jorge Vela spent three years as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Southern District of Texas.  As a federal prosecutor, he was in charge of investigating Mexican drug trafficking organizations that smuggled large quantities of narcotics across the U.S. - Mexico border.
